White Chocolate Snowflake Cupcakes
Delicate winter cupcakes with white chocolate and a graceful white chocolate swirl frosting.
Ingredients
- 1⅔ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- ¾ cup whole milk, room temperature
- 100 g white chocolate, finely chopped (melted and cooled)
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp fine salt
- 1½ tsp vanilla extract
- Frosting: 170 g white chocolate (melted & cooled), 1 cup unsalted butter (soft), 3–3½ cups powdered sugar, 2–3 tbsp heavy cream, 1 tsp vanilla, pinch of salt
- Decoration: sugar snowflakes, white edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, about 3–4 minutes.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition; mix in vanilla.
In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture in 2–3 additions, mixing just until combined.
Fold in the melted, cooled white chocolate gently until evenly incorporated.
Fill liners about ¾ full and bake 17–19 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
Frosting: Beat soft butter until light (2–3 minutes). Add 2 cups powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla; beat until smooth.
Stream in the melted, cooled white chocolate; mix briefly. Add cream and remaining sugar to reach a smooth, pipeable consistency.
Transfer to a piping bag fitted with an open-star tip and pipe a delicate swirl. Decorate with snowflakes and a touch of edible glitter.
Pro Tips
- • Use melted but cooled white chocolate so it does not seize the frosting.
- • Avoid overmixing after adding flour to preserve a tender crumb.
- • If frosting is too thick, add ½ tbsp cream; if too soft, add more powdered sugar.
- • Cool cupcakes fully before piping to keep the swirl defined.
Delicious Variations
- • Add a drop of almond extract to the frosting for a marzipan hint.
- • Hide 1 tsp lemon curd in the center for a bright citrus contrast.
- • Tint the frosting a whisper of pearl blue to enhance the winter look.
